What is Glycocalyx?
| The glycocalyx is the most important part of the cardiovascular system. The glycocalyx consists of polysaccharides that form small, dense hair-like structures filled with a thick gel. This is the protective coating on the entire surface of every blood vessel in your body. Along with cell wall protection, the endothelial glycocalyx transfers nutrients from the blood to the tissues and also releases nitric oxide causing vasodilaton & vasomotion, which gets the blood moving through the capillaries.

The GlycoCheck visualizes and assesses the health of the Glycocalyx. The Glycocalyx is a protective layer that lines the blood vessels; it consists of long chains of polysaccharides (specialized sugars) that combine with protein & fats to form gel-like Glyco-proteins & Glyco-fats. These structures look like tiny hairs but they are not hairs; these structures protect the endothelial cells of the blood vessels from damage while enhancing the flow of blood through the vessels.
